Zenith S58 needs opinion of specialists

Hello.

Here is a Zenith S58 that raises some questions.
As you can see, the dial has several unusual signs :
- indexes are thiner and longer,
- the star is missing above the ZENITH logo,
- the date window seems smaller than on other known ones and doesn't have the usual gilt frame.

At the same time, typography seems OK, the radium shows usual signs of age and everything else seem to be correct. The movement is a cal. 71 (= cal. 133-8 + date function) with 4,9M serial number.

Is there any expert to help ? LouS for example ? Thanks a lot !

Comparing lume of dial and hands, I am not sure hands were born with the watch as the lume on he dial is very dark compared to the one on hands...
For the rest, I don't know what to think about the point you raised...
It is maybe just a feeling but I find the dial very glossy and the wording very "white" compared to the second one you show
Waiting for more knowledgeable people...

I don't have Lou's experience, but I'd say that it is probably a (decent) redial.

The hands, case and bezel look good.

I'd have to agree with you, Tony. I've just gone through the picture library and can't find an example like that at all. The longer hour batons raise the question of whether it is some kind of McGyvered/adapted dial - more than just a redial. Whoever did the dial paint job had the original cliches though...very mysterious.

Has anybody seen a Cal 71 in an S58?

I have seen the original Cal 120 and the 133.8 without dates but the only ones I have seen with dates have been Cal 2542 PC.

Would love to see the case back. Is there an S.58 inscription on the back?

Well, there's this post from 2007. Photos have unfortunately disappeared but it describes an identical watch... possibly the same watch, I suppose.

Mostly just my gut. Can't imagine a redial that good on a watch of such relatively low value. And how do you fake a case and bakelite bezel and pop a cal 71 in there? Highly improbable to be a fake.
If there's an S.58 inscription on the back, I want it.

Case and bezel are authentic I think. Dial might not be though. Strangely, the missing frame for the date window bothers me most of all...

I'd bet that it was lost during the redial process.

No case number. The caseback is properly showing "S.58"...

Your English is perfectly acceptable.

What you may not be familiar with is the British/American/Australian (etc) way of indicating that the "Dibser" would like first opportunity to purchase the relevant watch should you decide to sell it or move t on.

In this case, you are bound by the unwritten rule of "Internet Gentlemen on Omega Forums" that you offer @MMMD first opportunity to buy if things go that way.

And to continue with the lesson, should the original owner sell to someone else instead, there is something called a "civil suit"... :rolleyes:
