Would like to see more of this particular one... especially the case back, in light of LouS's famous CSI-WIS work. Looks like an old GF bracelet with modern clasp. Replacement crown. Dial a bit grotty. Desperately needs better photography, unless someone wants to pull a Gavin (def: a calculated gamble on a poorly photographed Zenith grail).

Oscar Wilde is right: anyone who lives within his means suffers from a lack of imagination. Go to Italy, buy the watch, and when they ask you about it at customs say "I have nothing to declare but my genius."

..... or loses a few mortgage payments. For every person you see flop an inside straight on those poker shows, there's 2 or 3 dozen who end up with junk and surrender a pile of chips on an ill advised play but never get on camera.

Now, if you've done your homework, you can make it more like blackjack and push the odds slightly in your favor on a strange play - like doubling down on a soft 13 when the dealer shows a 5. Still risk, but knowing fonts and assessing dial condition through scuffed crystals is an art learned over time.

I understand the bit about crystals and dials, but cards is a mystery to me - I only play bridge.

Hi just wondering re the inside case back markings . I have one with 1205 marking near the inner circle of the case back. The outer case back is the NATO star. May be its the later addition ?

I am sure the expert will chime in soon, but these inner case back markings are those of a LouS Type B (Middle Production Series). It will be very important to see the outer case back, which should have a case number in the 707Dxxx to 708Dxxx range and no NATO star. I regard the absence of an outer case back photo as suspicious.

let's see some pictures, buddy, along with the case number.

There's nothing inherently concerning about the information you provide. 1205 is the current reference number for the A 386 case from Spillman, the case manufacturer. Hi thanks and good research , the one I have falls in the fourth category with case back serial number 923D31X , the word "D" is a little bit bigger than the other numbers. The NATO star case back. Will post pics when I know how to upload pics from iPad ::shy:: regards.

Buyer wrote back to me letting me know that he put "more clear" pictures with his listing. I guess this quality is as good as it gets with him...
He also wrote that he bought it in 2001 and that he does not have any history on the watch.

What's the opinion of the experts on the forum: after studying the pictures for what they're worth, any concerns that this watch might have been tampered with or would this be a good entry for me as novice into an A386?

Gah... I was going to throw a decent amount at it... slightly concerned that no matter how hard you try to enhance the pic from behind the bracelet obscures where that star would be on the csaeback...

I'm not 100% sure it sold. I think the guy might have had second thoughts about potentially losing it for the price of the opening bid at the buzzer... though I now know of at least three people who were queuing up snipes.
