The first gold El Primero - ref G 381- 700 examples produced between 1969-1972

maybe it's the most common gold early El Primero reference, but it's rare enough!

Now two at once

1. An italian listing for a BIN of 6500 Euros - a bit ambitious methinks

2. And a no reserve lot at Antiquorum's Hong Kong sale January 26

Wanna bet no one touches the italian one?:D

Just saw the ebay one earlier and was contemplating making an offer. I am watching both with intent. Just wondering what may be a fair price? Thanks in advance.

Not a large sample to draw price data from. March 2012 eBay sale went for USD 4327; November 2010 eBay sale at USD 3500.

Thanks Lou. While the ebay one is ambitious, Antiquorum's estimate is perhaps a little optimistic. With a limited production of 700 and prices creeping up, I hope it will not be another record.

I like the eBay one - an honest looking watch - I would expect it to end near $6k in a standard eBay auction. Unless the two guys going after that record-setting A3817 are involved. By the way, it might be time for me to tell that story...

The one thing that bothers me just a little about the eBay G381 (listed with some additional photos here: http://www.chrono24.com/en/zenith/el-primero--id2273038.htm ) is that the minute and hour hands overlap (in 3 different positions) on all the photos. Hard to believe that's a random occurrence - maybe the seller thought that would be a good way to give maximum exposure to the dial, or maybe there is a mechanical issue? I suppose some communication/extra photos could clear that up.

I believe that is a random occurance. For private sellers/non-dealers, there is this security feature on chrono24 that requires them to set the time to what their security program specify. That is to prove they actually have the watch instead stealing others' pics. You can see that in the 4th and 5th picture. I might be wrong though.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Sort of silly for chrono24 to ask for overlapping of hands, but random is random, I guess.

Agreed - I want to see certain features and fonts. For 60's pie pans (that would be Omega for you Zenopheliacs) I want the hands in a location where I can see the top and bottoms fonts and the date window surround, be it 8:47 or 9:21 or whatever time positions the hands to be away from critical areas.

I like it, despite the horrendous photography. It looks intact, mild wear, no major dings, dial and furnishings OK.

$3k already, clearly some interest in it... Are there any past auction figures for these?

This is the reference I really like - but I'm BROKE after the Centenary. No worries, there's 700 or so more around. ;)

You don't know though how many have been melted for gold value.
