Just notice that the number of thread (75) and posts (1009) in this Zenith sub-forum now tops other watch brands in this forum. That's an impressive progress for a sub forum created last (on Oct 12).

Omega and Zenith collectors are match made in heaven.......?

A forum is only as good as it's members and mods. This is no real surprise to me.

I secretly (well, not so secretly now) wish the Longines forum would do better with more substance but the fact is there aren't many dedicated Longines collectors.

I actually expect Rolex sub forum that will grow faster, well it seems dedicated Omega collectors and dedicated Rolex collectors are not in good terms (Mind you, I only have one Rolex).

I own two rolexes and love them, the trouble you have is that while the vintage Rolex collectors are generally more mellow and better to deal with than the modern guys, there's a lot of ego and machismo that seems to invariably follow the brand like a plague on forums

Prime example: Rolex fanboys are able to -- with a completely straight face -- state that Rolex actually improved El Primero by slowing down the beat rate and deleting the date complication.

Yea... I've read that many, many times. They always say the El Primero wasn't reliable enough at 36,000 or didn't last long at that beat rate, so had to be slowed down to 28,800 to meet Rolex's stringent quality control requirements.

I thought they downspeced the movement because their service network weren't up to task of servicing such a precision instrument as an el Primero.

That explains my self loathing I don't get on with myself when I open the watch box!
Wanna hear a little secret? I love watches! It really doesn't matter whether its a Rolex, Zenith, Omega, IWC or some little independent. If I like it, I buy it or I take the necessary steps to move on the less worn watches from my collection to get it.
Can't stand one eyed fanboys.

I collect watches that interest me. Full stop.
I have everything from a really cheap (monetary wise) Tissot from 1966 to other brands that cost more. When it comes to selecting the watch to wear for the day - I do not consider value or brand status. Sometimes, though, I reach for a Rolex just because it is, all other things aside, a very sturdy everyday watch that has good water resistance and if something unexpected should happen that day - an abundance of spare parts. That does not make me a fanboy - it is common sence. Why use my vintage el Primero to a situation where it could be damaged, knowing most exterior spare parts are non existing? Sometimes I say " I collect watches but I wear Rolex" - which is not entirely tru as I have some semimodern Omegas also and I do have some really old Rolexes that I would not use going out with the boat...
