Zenith Defy in 4 coulors.

Hi, I'm new here in this Forum.Ich have the same at the beginning for my bad English I'm sorry. I hope it is somewhat understandable.
As an introduction, I want to introduce 4 Zenith "Defy" dating back to 1980. All models have a strong case, a strong bolted back and a strong Crown. The case with the top double-Z are signed on the caseback. Inside on the caseback a type reference number 50-038-2 is available. Two letters stand before the number (E.g. for red NA and the khaki-coloured Defy PA.) All models have the caliber 2562 PC.
There are housing and colors even when the early El Primero.

That's a terrific collection of Zeniths - this is quite a burly reference.

Welcome Fred, I understood you just fine, and I certainly understand your great collection!

It is interesting that the case backs are differently marked - NA or PA. Anyone know why?

Yes, exactly. The Defy was the other great Zenith model introduction of 1969. By 1980, Zenith was no longer making mechanical movements, and was in the depths of quartz degradation.

Great trio Fred. Now you have to find the Gauss models!

When someone makes an introduction like that it always makes me very interested to see what other gems are to be found in their watchbox!

I'm not so sure. In 1969, the defy has had a different housing. With 8 corners and mineral glass. I think the strong sample with 4 Corners was built about 10 years later with Sapphire Crystal. I don't know that also.

This is the first DEFY 1969.

Fred, the two case styles were sold at the same time. That's well documented in Roessler as well as in catalogs. You can look at the movements too - both models have 2552 PC and 2562 PC, for which the production span is 1969 to 1975. Zenith was not making watches with its own movements in 1980.

Fred, I bought on of the red reference earlier this year - loved it and was gutted when it turned out to be a cut and shut and had to go back. My understanding is there was only 5000 of each colour and all produced in 71/72. Your lovely collection has set me off hunting again... the red on at least is actually ref A7682.
