Hey guys,

So in the spirit of doing some xmas shopping, I picked up this Zenith on a bit of a whim. It finally arrived today and I'm reading all I can to learn more about it. Any thoughts on its model reference, mfd year, originality, etc?

Thanks for your help.

Looks like a Cal 106 movement, the serial number dates the watch to around 1947. Interesting that the dial is missing the star - I wonder if this one was produced without it or if it wore off somehow.

That's about all I can tell you! Hopefully someone else chimes in.

1947 seems to be accurate based on this guide as well.

Do you know when Zenith started to use the star ??

I'm still digging up information and coming up short. If anybody else has any info or opinions I would love to hear them.

All I can say is that the movement looks original. Maybe. To me the dial looks a little off though, particularly the subdial indices... I really wish I could help you more but unfortunately I don't know much about Zenith. ::shy::

Is the crown signed?

Hi,

If it is a caliber 106 - and it looks like it is - it was probably not made in Besançon (France) because these movements usually had a 6 numbers ref, which cannot be dates because Zénith lost all the data.

So this one should be a Swiss made one.

Can you provide a shot of inside the caseback?
Unfortunately I don't have one at the moment, but will snap one when I take it to a local watchmaker.

It isn't, and is probably a newer replacement...

I take it back. In my research, Zenith watches in the 40's did not have signed crowns so this may be original.

Visited a local watchmaker who is apparently considered the best in the area. His opinion was that the dial and hands seem original, and that the movement is running ok - loses 30-45 seconds a day in my experience, and amplitude is about 220-230.
